Hello, I’m Jasper Flynn.
As I write this, I’m roughly two weeks from completing the final chapter of the first book I’ll publish. That phrasing is intentional. Over the last two decades, I’ve written the equivalent of several novels, but those novels have either sat in folders or ended up on various free writing websites. I never took my work seriously enough to actually publish. In 2020, finding myself with loads of free time, I started a project to audit all the words I’d written. This required remembering old usernames, resetting old passwords, and pulling copy from various websites. I threw all those words into a word counter and saw that I had written hundreds of thousands. Although I enjoyed writing all those words for their audiences, it felt like time wasted. And a decision was made. What if I rewrote the stories, had them adequately edited, and self-published?
That’s where we are today. It took me significantly longer than expected to get through this first story. It is nearly 100,000 words, and I’m still not finished. I thought it would be around 70k, so I’ll likely have some rewrites ahead of me to address my challenges with verbosity.
Being so close to my goal, it was an excellent time to fire up the blog section of my poorly designed website. So here’s the first entry. More to come as the editing and revision process begins.
